Clarkson Carbon at the 27th IE expo Shanghai | April 13-15, Shanghai

The 27th IE expo China 2026 successfully concluded at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre from April 13th to 15th. As Asia’s flagship environmental protection exhibition, this year’s event brought together the world’s leading environmental technologies and cutting-edge solutions, reflecting the industry’s true pulse.

In the past, the competition was about “scale” and “flashyness” of the booths; this year, we saw companies proactively reducing their booth size, shifting from a “large and comprehensive” approach to a focus on “specialization and refinement.” Specialized exhibition halls were packed, with booths for environmental monitoring, membrane technology, hydroamines, and CCUS being particularly difficult to secure. Technology demonstrations shifted from “equipment displays” to “system solutions,” with AI empowerment, smart operation, and full lifecycle services becoming frequently mentioned terms.

Behind this lies a growing industry consensus: the golden age of the environmental protection industry may have passed, but the silver age belongs to those companies willing to cultivate, focus, and create substantial value.

Clarkson’s choice is to respond to the questions of the times with its core strengths of “source factory + technology system + application understanding + supply chain capabilities” in this transformation—activated carbon has never been a simple “black powder,” but a complete value system from the source of production to technology research and development, from scenario adaptation to global delivery.

1.Source Factory: The Foundation of Self-Controlled Production Chain

The performance of activated carbon is determined from the source. As a true source factory, Clarkson possesses a complete industrial chain, from raw material procurement and activation processes to finished product processing, achieving self-control over the entire production chain. We produce various types of activated carbon, including palm shell, coal, and wood-based materials, achieving global production capacity layout and flexible allocation through our self-built production bases (Suzhou, Shanxi, Anhui, Foshan) and overseas factories (Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur). As a source factory, we can directly control the quality of raw materials and production processes, avoiding quality losses in intermediate links—a core advantage that trading companies cannot match.

  • Technology System: Precise Control Capabilities Driven by Self-Developed

Technologies The adsorption capacity of activated carbon depends not only on its specific surface area but also, and perhaps more importantly, on whether its pore size distribution and surface chemical properties match the target pollutant. As a source factory with self-developed technologies, Clarkson has accumulated a unique technology system through years of research and development. We also have a professional quality testing center that monitors and controls the entire process of product development and production according to international standards. Furthermore, we have established industry-university-research cooperation bases with several chemical engineering universities, combining the research results of universities with the actual needs of enterprises to promote the continuous iteration and upgrading of our technology system.

  • Application Understanding: Understanding carbon and its industry-specific application scenarios

Activated carbon is the carrier, but the industry-specific process is the soul. Clarkson has accumulated extensive industry application experience across multiple sectors, including municipal engineering, chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, electronics and semiconductors, and food. In the semiconductor industry, we understand the impact of gas purity on chip yield and have developed targeted trace impurity adsorption solutions. In the pharmaceutical industry, we are keenly aware of the safety red lines behind decolorization and deodorization, providing low-ash activated carbon that meets pharmaceutical-grade standards. In industrial waste gas treatment, we design customized adsorption-desorption-recovery processes based on VOC composition and operating conditions. This application understanding—”understanding carbon and understanding the industry”—allows us to provide customers with comprehensive services from diagnosis and selection to commissioning, rather than simply supplying products.

  • Supply Chain Capabilities: One-Stop Delivery Guarantee with a Global Footprint

Originating in Johor, Malaysia, with our initial domestic establishment in Suzhou, we currently have six companies, multiple production bases, and R&D centers worldwide. This network not only ensures production capacity and logistics but also allows us to rapidly deploy our technology systems, application understanding, and supply chain capabilities to different regions, achieving global value delivery.

In the opening year of the 15th Five-Year Plan, facing compliance pressures from EU carbon tariffs, the demand for contaminated site remediation, industrial waste gas treatment, and complex wastewater treatment will only become more urgent. Activated carbon, as a key component of end-of-pipe treatment, is no longer limited to a single product, but rather represents a comprehensive embodiment of “source plant + technology system + application understanding + supply chain capabilities.”

Returning from the Environmental Expo, we are even more convinced that the silver age of the environmental protection industry belongs to those who cultivate a deep-rooted “four-in-one” core value.

Clarkson will continue to uphold the philosophy of “Selecting the best carbon, living a better life,” using source plants as the foundation, technology systems as the root, application understanding as the soul, and supply chain capabilities as wings to provide global customers with more precise, efficient, and sustainable purification solutions.
